On Monday we visited the Shanghai Museum. Admission to the museum was free however the line to get in was about an hour wait and it just so happened that Monday was a cold rainy day so our wait wasn't fun at all! Luckily I had an umbrella, but we still froze! The museum wasn’t all that exciting I was expecting something more interesting but I did like some of the Calligraphy art and paintings of old China as well as their cultural dress exhibit. The watercolor paintings were extraordinary, such beautiful pieces! In the money exhibit I thought it was interesting that some of the oldest forms of currency in China were different types of metals and ores shaped as knives and or spear heads; I guess they were multi functional. We enjoyed our time in the museum but I wouldn’t say its not to be missed I think there are many other more interesting things to do in Shanghai, but it was a nice place to visit on a rainy day..
Our visit to Yuyuan Gardens wasn’t as successful as I’d hoped. The gardens were extremely packed full of people and it was hard to even move around. People were squeezed into the alleys shuffling their feet as they moved around in single file lines. We thought that the gardens had a lantern display but it turns out the public areas filled with new year’s decorations were the displays that our hostel receptionist was talking about. We still enjoyed looking at all of the trinkets and gadgets laid out to entice tourists and we also watched as the dumpling factory handmade dumplings at lightning speed as hundreds of Chinese were lined up to eat the traditional CNY cuisine. Nana and I indulged in Dairy Queen!!! Carlo got a kick out of our server’s name…. On the register it displayed "Hello my name is Demon" He tried to take a pic and the girl freaked out and didn’t understand, it was hilarious! Back to the ice cream… Chinese ice cream is generally not very good it usually tastes like the terrible ice cream you will sometimes find in Chinese restaurant buffets in the states; a mix between ice cream, ice milk, but flavored with jello? I don’t know what they do but we don’t like it. I have tasted some popsicles which were ok, but “good” Chinese ice cream doesn’t exist. Carlo looks at us like we are crazy but after 6 months up there he will understand! Nana and I had too much fun eating our ice creams! Lol
Monday night we decided to stay in and recover from Sunday night still so we enjoyed playing pool at the hostel and lounging a bit after a full day of walking.
Margarita Night at Zapatas! Coming soon
