during the first two days, i slept a lot and generally tried to make an impression in my mattress
on the third day, we went into a small jungle town and helped to clear a small (probably about 1,000 square foot) lot where the community is hoping to build a church. others stayed at the school and painted furniture all morning. in the afternoon, the potter´s wheel peeps organized a futbol tournament and there were a few impromptu games of futbol, basketball, and volleyball before the tourny kicked off. watching a bunch of (supposedly soccer) moms and teenagers from wisconsin battle some ecuadorian ladies was entertaining indeed. it certainly shed some light on the states´ dismal world cup showing; futbol is just not part of the united states´ culture like it is here (and in most latinoamerican countries). we ate heaps of rice and fried eggs for lunch, played sports all afternoon, and returned to our dorms exhuasted.
when we got back there was a bird in our room (which i caught using the sheet trick daniela told me about) that had emptied its guts onto a couple of the guys´ mosquito nets. talk about an exciting evening. i was just glad to have spent a day in the outside world and not to have seen my lunch twice.
