If you are looking for a really nice, clean place for a good deal stay at Hotel Del Jardin on Colòn 47 in Salto, Uruuay hotstali@adinet.com.uy 073-32325 $150 pesos per person per night, about US$6.50 Great Staff and most are bilingual Private room, bath, TV, frigobar, and phone. Central location and a block form the river.

salto is a small, chill city to walk around, and the hot springs outside of town are worth a visit. we spent the afternoon at one of the bigger spring complexes, which had lots of natural hot spring-fed pools, picnic tables, and grassy spots to spread out a towel. it was a little too hot to really enjoy the pools, but we took a dip in the ¨cold¨ pool, which was just a little cooler than bathwater.

the city itself has a nice central square and is plenty safe. there´s not too much going on at night, and it´s blazingly hot during the day, so nothing moves too fast in salto. on our last day, we hustled out of the hotel and down to the dock to catch the boat to concordia. we arrived at 10, but the boat didn´t leave until 12. in typical fashion, a man ambled over to the ticket office and unlocked it at 1145. we got our exit stamps in a building that proclaimed it was the nautical museum of salto. the absolutely empty room proclaimed otherwise.

the 10 minute boat trip across the rio uruguay to concordia, argentina is recommended over the 1.5 hour bus trip to concordia.
