So after leaving Panama City, a 10 hr bus ride from hell, and seeing Bocas del Toro town, I had just about giving up on Panama. Most of the locals met so far have generally been rude and who ever told me that you could make it around panama easy without knowing much Spanish is a lier face... And then I get on a small boat from Bocas town to the island of Bastimentos.

Going to the island you can either land on the south or north coasts. The south was the closest so that's where I ended up knowing that it would only be a $10 boat ride to get around or if I could find the trail, a little bit of a hike. Turns out the south side is not much to see, shanty shacks and no beaches. As I'm walking around, I run into this old crazy guy who tried to sell me on this place to stay, which after checking it out politely saying no and that I wanted to check out the north side known as Red Frog Beach where I'm certain there is some good beaches and jungle, he tells me he'll show me the trail head and tell me the way to hike over rather than get a boat. Keep in mind it's still only 8am and I'm going on no sleep, but I assess the situation and feel good about it all. He walks me up past shanty town to the top of a hill and gives me the directions and off I go.

After 30min I end up at Wizard Beach, which is a pretty awesome long white sand beach with nothing but jungle right up to the beach, no sign of buildings or people. After some beach time I headed up to Red Frog beach which was a bit of a jungle trek combined with some small beaches, but in true Frerich fashion I made my own path and found my way to an amazing place called Red Frog Beach. There is a small beach bar at the end of the beach, and some dirt roads that lead around to some vacation properties, a small Eco tent lodge, a hostel (where I ended up staying) and the boat dock where the less adventurous get to the beach (ended up being a 3 hr hike and people seemed pretty impressed that I went that way rather than easy boat). Oh, and this place has the 5th largest zip line which I'll be doing tomorrow. Plan on spending a few days here checking it all out.
