Now that we have left Canada and you have heard all our rants and raves in regards to the last leg of our trip it is time to get you up to speed with where we are now. Birmingham!

We made it to Birmingham with a few issues.... as usual.... we have basically decided we must have done something really bad in a previous life for the treatment we get in regards to travel.

We made in Toronto on the Greyhound a little late and therefore missed our transfer to the airport, however we were really early so we weren't worried.

Until.... the next airporter bus didn't come for 45 minutes (meant to be every 15-20 minutes) the bus is advertised to take 30-45 minutes to get to the airport so we weren't worried

Until.... 2 hours had ticket by and we still on the bus!!!! So we eventually made it to the airport 1 hour later than we were meant to, but at least check in was still open so we managed to get on the plane without issue.  The journey seemed to be picking up on the disasters front...

Until.... We got on the plane and the man next to me was VERY difficult to deal with and was taking up so much room I spent 7 hours leaning so far over to Dan that by the end of the trip, my ribs had basically moved around the arm of the chair! So we land and get off the plane (which felt wonderful) and went to immigration. Again we thought we were all set to go...

Until... We had to split up to go through immigration as I was entering on a British passport and Dan on a working visa. I breezed through called my cousin to let him know we had landed and waited on the other side of the door for Dan to come through the much slower line. So I waited and waited and waited....and....waited.... I saw the lady who was in front of Dan come through and still I waited...

Until... Everyone was gone, except me. When Dan eventually came through the door Phew!!! What had happened was that Dan had been asked how he would support himself if he couldn't find a job and he had answered 'My wife and we are staying with her family', at that the lady looked worried and said she couldn't let him into the country as he is here on a youth mobility visa and on that visa you are not allowed to be married!!! She went off for a long while, when eventually she came back looking a bit sheepish and told Dan that he was allowed in after all as they had just changed the rules around this visa and nobody had told her!! So in the end all was well.

So we are officially in the country! We got picked up and went to relax in our new home.  The next day we wandered down to our local town of Halesowen and went out for a meal with Sue and Mike (our gracious hosts) who had just arrived home from Ireland.  The next day we went into Birmingham city for the day. Birmingham is a very nice city and it was a lovely day, our second and last day of summer we have had.  We wandered around the canals and city streets which was very pleasant.  Birmingham has many interesting sculptures and fountains to check out and loads of pedestrian only areas which makes the whole experience of wandering very pleasant.

Since then we have madly being applying for work and being rather boring.  Even on Dan's birthday we went into Wolverhampton to visit a teaching agency and open a bank account.. very exciting!  But to make up for it, on Wednesday Sue and Mike took us on a day trip to Bridgenorth via the Severn Valley Railway.  The S.V.R is a largely volunteer run steam train that runs from Kidderminster to Bridgenorth.  We saw some lovely scenery on the way to Bridgenorth along the Severn River. When we got to our destination we wandered around the town including the castle ruin, church and little cobbled streets.  This town was absolutely lovely and a great day out.

This is about all we have been up to over the last week and we will be doing more once the job situation is rolling along.
