Jeremy hadn't had much time out of the city. It sucks to be in Thailand for a couple of months and never see a decent beach (we had spent a couple of hours in Pattaya, but it’s a hole). So we took a few days and headed to an island a few hours from Bangkok. Koh Samet is frequented by Thais much more than foreigners, which makes it pretty chill. Also, Thais hate the sun, so we had the water pretty much to ourselves for the entire day. Then at dusk, when the potential for tanning and subsequently being treated like a lowly laborer had dissipated, tons of Thais flocked to the beach and into the water, still wearing long sleeves and floppy hats of course, because moonlight can stimulate pigment as well. Can’t have that.

So Jeremy, Jackie and I all got pretty impressive sunburns on our first day there. Lindsey has learned her lesson from our time in Asia. But Jeremy and I played football on the beach and in the water for about 4 hours. Then Lindsey and I played Jeremy and Jack in volleyball. Jackie played high school volleyball and coaches the sport. Jeremy was a football player, but is still and athlete. So Lindsey and I proceeded to kick the crap out of the 21-year-olds and kick sand in their faces. It was fun. But all of this added up to crispy flesh for Jeremy especially. He was burned bad enough that we just had to get him drunk so he could sleep through the night without screaming in agony.

All in all, a good trip.
