Temporary Buddhist Temple

Check out the plastic wrap on the spinning wheels for merit making. That's a nice example of sterilized Singapore.
Monday was a Buddhist holiday celebrating Buddha's birth, death and enlightenment. So the park next to the MRT station by our hotel had been turned into a temporary place of worship. It was cool. We had seen all the merit making and worship before in other Southeast Asian countries, but I thought it would be cool for Derek to see it. I think he really enjoyed it. We strolled in their late at night and he was jet-lagged and only slightly friendly, and a woman walked up and asked if he would like to "fill the emptiness inside him." He stared at her icily and she eventually walked away. I had never seen any Buddhists proselytizing, so that was interesting. And Derek's response entertained me thoroughly. If she had approached me, I probably would have taken her line for spiritual salvation and turned it into a double entendre, which would have made everyone quite uncomfortable.
