Forgive my brevity over the next few posts, but these internet connections are slow and I'm less and less enamored with the travel pod all the time. So I'll give the gist of it all.
From Chiang Rai we headed to Chiang Saen. It's a town on the border with Laos. It's not an official crossing for foreigners, but it is a jumping point for the Golden Triangle (which is really an entire region, but Thailand, Laos, and Burma all meet at Sop Ruak). It wasn't particularly important to us, but we had 5 days before our visas expired.
There's not much to do in Chiang Saen. It's quiet though and has a nice view of the Mekong and neighboring Laos. We spent two nights there, and our one day there we rented a motorbike and cruised first to Sop Ruak, then to Mae Sai.
