Omoa is a gorgeous village on the coast. It's in a bay, so you have water in front of you and mountains and jungle sprawling out behind you. It's beautiful.

The only full day I was there we went on a jungle hike along a river in the morning, then in the afternoon went ocean kayaking in the way. We rowed out for a while, then just laid back on our kayaks and chatted and watched the sun set, waiting for the water to push us back to land. We looked up after an hour and realized that the water had instead pulled us out to sea.

So I'm terrified of open water, I'm not a hell of a swimmer, and I had kayaked once before in my life. So this predicament made me a little nervous. But I was with this girl so I had to play it cool. Plus, at least we were together. Well, it turns out that she was on some sort of kayaking team in North Carolina, which means she very soon became a dot on the darkening horizon. I watched the sun disappear into the Carribbean and rowed and rowed without much progress. But after much rowing and one long panic attack, I made it back to land. We went out for a well-deserved dinner and couple of beers that night.
