I didn't make it to Easter Mass last time I was in Rome. All the rooms were booked, for the whole of Italy it seemed like, so I ended up sleeping on a train to a town I'd never heard of. Not that memorable. So this time I decided I really wanted to see mass. We emailed and secured tickets, which we had sent to a B&B we weren't staying at. They agreed to hold the tickets and let us pick them up at 7:30 Sunday morning. Very nice people. Then, we headed to mass.

There were...a lot of people there. But we managed to get in early and get great seats. They were on the floor, and you usually have to pay a scalper like 3 times face value to get that hooked up. But it's totally worth it because it's all about the music, right?

Anyway, we had great seats. Mass was definitely an amazing experience. We're not Catholic, or Christian, but we still appreciated the ceremony of it all. And it's always amazing to see other people experiencing something so special to them. The nuns nearby, the old women weeping as they passed their rosaries through ancient fingers. It was beautiful. Most of the time at least. There were also plenty of tourists who treated it like a trip to Disneyland. The woman behind us who was texting as every key beeped, the cell phone ring set to the chipmunks, and of course the kid in front of us playing games on his iPhone while the Pope chanted. It's rare that you get to actually see someone get condemned to the fourth level of hell. Here's the video:

So, despite a few annoying people, it was still a memorable experience. I'm glad we made it.
