Another day in the city that apparently doesn't sleep, although to be honest I've already got the impression that it's difficult to have a great time here without being seriously minted.

Being in Las Vegas is like a huge advert for Gamblers Annoymous, you see people sat in front of their machine of choice all day, feeding it mechanically. They show no emotion whether they win or lose and mostly it seems that they lose. The only good thing about playing them, is that all the alcoholic drinks are free, there are servers walking around all day and night, plying the players with drinks, in the bars, happy hour was from 8am - 5pm. Obviously this wasn't an attempt to get you drunk and hope that you'd become more liberal with your gambling budget.

The whole place feels a bit seedy really, when we were flicking through the local phone book in our room (trying to find an internet cafe) we happened across the "entertainer's section". It seemed to fill about half of the directory and believe me these were not the sort of entertainers that you would want at a child's birthday party (probably more appropriate for a 18th, 21st or stag night style of party!).

At nightfall, we drove up and down in the strip and I have to say that it's difficult not to get a little swept up by the glitz and bright lights of Vegas. The place definitely comes alive at night and we saw several of the famous hotels like Excalibur, Paris, New York New York. Lynne tried in vain to capture the sights on our cameras, whilst I tried not to crash the car and work out how to slow down just enough for her to get a shot. This did involve me having to make four U-turns to go back and forth past the famous "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign.

Tomorrow we're checking our of Circus Circus, because as it gets towards the weekend we simply can't afford to stay here (it more than trebles in price). So again we're throwing ourselves at the mercy of the good people from Travelodge. Let's hope it's better than the last hotel of theirs that we stayed at!
