PHEW!

We'll what an exciting few weeks it has been! So much to write about and so many pictures to share!

It's sad, scary, and exiting to think that I have less then one week left at Purdue! Most of my classes I've already completely finished! Today I just finished my final presentation for class 'EDST 200 History and Philosophy of Education', and tomorrow all I have is a party for 'EDCI 205 Exploring Teaching as Career'! After that I just have one more assignment on Monday and one more exam on Tuesday. Then Tuesday night, I'm leaving for to take a 3 week road trip across america from LA to NY!! CRAZY!! (PS I Can't wait!!)

Wow time really crept up on me, one minute I just got to fairway and the USA, the and now I'm just about ready to leave. It'll be sad to have to say goodbye to all of my new USA friends, but I'm really looking forward to seeing my family, Emily, friends, Grill'd, Meat pie's and BEER sorry to mention beer, but being underage again has sucked! I'm not a big beer drinker, and I only condone casual/social drinking, but man- I could down a Heineken- heck I'd even settle for apple cider!

So in the last few weeks I've done some pretty cool stuff at Purdue, my favorite being the BEST PARTY I'VE ever been to!! I can't even begin to tell you how awesome it was. It was seriously the perfect party. To set the stage: Since the weather has warmed up fairway decided to through a Parking Lot Luau (that's american for Hawaiian Party in the Car Park). So we all got in our Luau gear, and headed outside for some fun! Now not only were their around 350-450 people at the party:
-A HUGE Dance floor with massive sound system
-FREE Cotton Candy (Fairy Floss) - we hired our own fairy floss machine and about 15 2KG bags of the sugary stuff!!
- A bonfire with free marshmallow and chocolate/crackers (American do this weird thing with chocolate crackers and marshmallow at fires)
- Outdoor Sand Volley Ball
- A jumping castle (moon bounce) YES- fairway hired a jumping castle just for the occasion haha it was sweet!
- Free drinks and Pina Colada's/Strawberry or Bananna smoothies
-Free BBQ shish-kebabs/sausages (make your own)
AND to top it all up, an American energy drink company heard about the party and promoted their energy drink by giving out unlimited free ones all night!! YEW!!!

Honestly I couldn't think of a better party if I tried- it catered for everyone, you could dance, chill by the fire, play sports, eat free food/drinks.... it was amazing!!

But that's not even the coolest thing I've done.. last weekend (as the Title suggests) I went to the greatest city in the world! New YORK!!! Now as a Australian, of course Australia is the best country in the world, but don't judge my verdict of the best city until you've been to NY!! It was so good! I couldn't live their my whole life, but for a year or two I would love it! Remember its a city with almost half the population of Australia haha.

I had the privilege of going with my good friend LeRoy Gordon. When we arrived on a subway we started off on a 5.5 hr tour of the city! We visited the amazing times square (at night it's so bright from all the lights there were a few times I thought it was early morning sunshine haha), statue of liberty, central park, wall street and the stock exchange (wall street was actually originally a wall build across Manhattan to keep the British out in the revolutionary war! interesting hey), ground zero (wow this place was powerful, very sad to see and remember what happened).

Later on that night we went up to the empire state observatory- it was fantastic- their were bright lights as far as the eye can see and great views of the city below!

The next day I visited a catholic church- the largest in America- it runs 4 services a day and each service has over 100 packed full rows of pew's! Though when I went up for communion the priest wouldn't let me partake because I wasn't catholic... to say the least I was pretty offended but I'm not to surprised actually. After this we went to the MOMA 'Museum of Modern Art' now this was the WORST DECISION I'VE ever made. Among the 'Masterpieces was' an orange colored stick, a pile of bricks stacked in a square, a piece of string on a wall (this one was 'kindly' donated by a famous NY artist), and the funniest one of all- a women who sit in the center of the room and stares at different people who sit in a particular chair for 4 months straight. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA the exhibition is called 'the artist is present' you can view a live feed here: http://www.moma.org/interactives/exhibitions/2010/marinaabramovic/ apparently sometimes she gets naked people to come and stare at each other for the sake of 'art' lol.....

Anyway as funny as 'art' is, after this I went and saw the Lion king on Broadway! A- Great experience though maybe a little pricey. Then after this I went to a NY baseball game (mets vs dodgers). LeRoy and I managed to get $25 tickets in the $90 ticket section of a ticket scalper haha! Funny thing is though we found out later that the guy got them for free of kind old gentlemen who wanted to bless someone haha. Oh well suited us! Baseball was fun.. for the first hour and a half.. but it's very much like cricket in that it just DRAGS on (like this blog maybe?? haha- if anyone is still reading!!), but watch some video's I've posted- it classic to here the midi 'duh duh duh da da da!' sound when they make a base and the sales people yelling in thick NY accent 'Cracker Jack's here, get your cracker jack's here' at the top of their voices every 30 seconds!! haha

To sum up the last day- I woke up to find that might flight had been cancelled and that I had to leave 2hrs early- not to worry though- they gave me $500 worth of flight vouchers! Just before we left I had a NY slice of Pizza (HUGE!) and visited the amazing central park- the name central park just doesn't cut it- it should be named 'the majestic botanical central eden' That would more suit how amazing and huge it is!

Anyway, all in all I had a fantastic time! Next week I'm going to start my 3 week trip with places like Vegas, grand-canyon, and Texas, so stay tuned casue I hope to fill you in soon.

To all my Aussie friends, miss you and can't wait to see you soon!

To all my American friends, I will miss you and I can't wait to see you when you visit!!

Love ya's! Dan
