STARTING FROM WHERE I LEFT OFF :) Left Chicago heading to Purdue in the 'Lafayette Limo' (Purdue is situated in the city of West Lafayette), trip took about 2 hrs and the driver dropped us off at the airport, everyone. Stupid place to drop everyone, as the airport is quite a long walk away from everything! Luckily, I called one of the guys (Chad) from the house I'm staying in 'Fairway Cooperative' and he was able to pick me up. So I left all the rest of the stranded suckers in the cold and drove to the house!
Now for those of you who don't know, 'Fairway' is a 'cooperative' house for guys studying at Purdue to live in. It is similar to a 'Fraternity' where all the members of the house are in an almost 'brotherhood'. Normally it is quite hard to become a member and you have to 'pledge' ur alliance to the house, by doing work, and getting the other house members to like you and accept you into the house. Luckily I was able to get away with just a 10 min skype interview and send in a 'resume' type form, so I got lucky here!
Fairway differs to a Fraternity though in that all members contribute to the upkeep of the house, with less than 4 hrs a week of cleaning, cooking, buying food etc. Fairway is also for (serious) Christian guys only (that's why I got in haha). Currently 60 guys live at Fairway. However only 3 guys were here when I arrived, as the semester hasn't started yet, and all the guys are back in their home towns with family! The oldest guy at fairway is 22, so it's awesome!! hahahaha- already I'm having a ball, with the few guys that are here- all of them are really quality people and they are going out of their way to make sure I feel welcome :)
MY ROOM: Chad took me on a tour of the place and showed me round- you can see all these places in my pics. I'm staying in a room with two other guys I havnt met yet- Chas and Nick, so that should be great! The room is really spacious! I have my own desk (see pics), drawers, space in the wardrobe so It's really comfortable. One of my room mates has a 45 inch plamsa with a PS3 and cable, which I'm able to use. YEW!!! Also the room has a mini fridge and a microwave for late night snacks. YUM! Another interesting point is that the guys have built a mezzanine for couch's (cheak out the pics), so we've got like couch space for 7 people with one couch stacked on the top of the other.
SLEEPING: However I don't sleep in this room- all the guys who have rooms on the top floor (there are three floors) sleep in a dorm style room. in bunk beds (see pics). I really like this set up as it means I can stay up late in my room, not having to worry about noise, but when I wanna go to sleep, I can go into the sleeping room with no noise- though hopefully there are no snorers!
BATHROOMS: The bathrooms are normal except for the fact that there are only communal showers- no privacy! So lets hope it doest get too cold in the morning b4 I have a shower..... lol
Now everything I talk about here is pictured. Downstairs is where all the hangout's happen. It's got a massive room with ping pong and couch's, a TV room with a 2M wide TV and almost stadium seating couch's, kitchen and eating area. I'm told that Fairway hosts some pretty crazy parties with up to 500 people down here a few times a semester so I can't wait to get into that!!
So there you go! That is the house! As to what I've been getting up too... hmm I might leave that for my next blog, where I'll also show pic's of the uni! Stay Tuned!
