So I am changing what I said about Sri Lanka not being cleaner than India, because after seeing some of the country I realize it is definitely cleaner than India. I saw many nature places where i realized if it were the same place in India there would be a sea of trash scattered about the landscape. the cleanliness and attention to keeping the trash picked up is very refreshing, for the eyes and for the nose.

I have had a difficult time adjusting to Sri Lanka since leaving India. I know that I was feeling 110% ready to leave India, but after a day here I already missed India again and wanted to go back :) Even today I am missing India, a full week after being in Sri Lanka.

It could be that I am so excited for Oliver to arrive that I cannot enjoy much of anything right now, and I am trying to keep an open mind and want to enjoy the beauty Sri Lanka has to offer. the thing is, I am so spoiled! After visiting Madagascar (the most amazing tropical paradise...our room there was a small bungalow right on the beach, where at high tide the water came just up to our balcony), and after visiting Myanmar (where you can see the most beautiful Buddhist statues, pagodas and temples in the world), Sri Lanka pales in comparison to both of these places from what i have seen so far. In the south, many of the beaches ruined by the highway which runs right along side them, and between the highway and the beach are all the guesthouses and restaurants. I haven't been yet, but I have heard Mirissa beach doesn't have that set up, and that the guesthouses and restaurants are set back from the beach, so it is possible to enjoy the beauty without being crowded by traffic and busy-ness going on all around you.

I am staying at the Green Woods guest house here in Kandy, which lies just on the outside of the Udawattakelle Nature Sanctuary. If you would like to call me there the phone number is 081 (which is the city code for Kandy)-223-2970. You can visit www.countrycallingcodes.com to figure out how to call from your country to Sri Lanka by following the easy prompts. You can catch me in the evenings Sri Lanka time, and I will be staying there for sure until the morning of Feb. 12th, a Sunday.
