Our flight left at 6 am. We both got approximately 3 hours of sleep, but that's ok. Our plan is to land in Montreal and take a bus (Orleans Express) from the airport straight to Quebec. Our plan is slightly detoured. The bus tickets from the airport were sold out. So instead we got on a bus (747) and took it to the main bus station in Montreal, and from there we took the bus to Quebec. It's just a 3 hour bus ride, so it's really not bad. And the bus is quite comfortable.
We arrive in Quebec and it is downpouring. We were planning on taking the Ecolobus ($1 bus ride) to our hotel. But instead we take a cab due to the weather. I check in and then we walk up to our building. It is a building from 1840 with what I believe are the original stairs. Our room is on the 4th floor so it's a fun little 5 minutes lugging our one giant luggage up. But our room is adorable! We are also next door neighbors with the Chateau Frontenac (a prestigious 600 room hotel) along with the French consulate. Good neighborhood, I'll say. And we are in Upper Town, so just in case there is an attack on the city we are safe haha.
So after we change, we go to wander the city. Two blocks from us was the Chapelle des Ursulines. It was a very cozy little church. We wandered onto rue St. Jean and ended up at St. John's Gate to get a great view of the popular rue. During our quest to find dinner, we ended up walking up rue Ste-Ursule and found a wonderful little place called Le Petit Coin Latin. It seemed it was the place where the locals hung out, which is always a good sign. Of course, English was not spoken. But I managed with my few phrases that I knew. And on our way back up St. Jean, we of course stopped by City Hall and Cathedrale Notre-Dame, which is quite golden and beautiful inside.
We finished off the day by exploring the Chateau Frontenac, both on the outside and inside. It is absolutely something to see. Close by the Chateau is rue du Tresor, or artist's row. Only a few artists were left around, but we knew we would be back.
Finally, we left the night for us to go see Cirque du Soleil for free! They have a show 5 nights a week for free called Les Chemin Invisibles under the Dufferin/Montmorency highway overpass. It was an absolute delight for almost two hours!!
