The pain this morning in my tailbone was unbearable. It took me an hour to try to get out of bed because any step I took shot terrible pain throughout my leg and back. But I managed after a while and we packed up and went to the train station, got tickets to Zakopane, and were off. The train took FOREVER! Last year I took a bus and it was nice. I have no idea why we decided to take a train. But every city we went into, we would pull into the train station, and then would have to pull out and turn around to keep going. Well after four hours we got to Zakopane.

Our hostel, Stara Polana, was beautiful! It was a true Zakopane style house: basically like a triangle with rooms upon rooms inside. They don't look that big from the outside but when you come inside they are gigantic. We got our room which was beautiful: all wooden, large, with a private balcony. We were starving and got Zapiekanki and Gofry. Gofry are waffles with whipped cream and fruit on top.

We took a funicular up to Grubolowka. This place is up in the mountains and is known for sun bathers. People even come here in winter to sun bathe. We walked around, there were some craftmakers selling stuff up there, and we saw ponies. Then we took a ski lift down. It was about 15 minutes but it was such a pleasant ride. You could see all the Zakopane houses, cows, and of course the mountains.

By evening we went to Krupowki, which is the main street in Zakopane known for its stores, restaurants, and much more. We went to this truly authentic restaurant and got Ruskie pierogi and salads. They were swimming in butter...that's Zakopane style. Mountain people need the fat to keep them going through the winters. We were also entertained by some mountain-men playing Zakopane style music and singing. It was great!
