They can take the park away from the tourists, but they can't take the tourists away from... Bar Harbor. Acadia too, for that matter. The various entrances are full of cars parked to the side of the "closed" signs and people are sneaking in. I haven't heard how many are getting ticketed. Everyone is pretty disgusted, as are we. This was a big draw for me, it looks so cool on the map. What a location! No wonder the Rockefellers, Carnegies, Astors, Vanderbilts, etcetera, built their summer "homes" here. Now, it's hoi poloi heaven, as well as The Others, still.

We toured the town on Sunday, along with two cruise ship loads of gawkers. But it was sunny and wonderful just the same. It is a cool and quaint little town, full of restaurants, all featuring "lobstah." Big bucks for not much flavor. Rather underwhelmed am I. We toured the island today and this place just replicates the San Juans, an east coast us. There are other little towns scattered around such as Seal Harbor where you can find the Naturalists Notebook, a very special book store. Tomorrow we hope to go on a large, four masted sailing ship to get a better view of the Acadia we can't touch.

We set sail on a very blustery day, cold too. This ship is 151 feet long with four masts, a schooner. In the olden days it would have hauled cargo. Now, tourists serve as ballast.
