The group voted to pay a bit extra to take private transport to Antigua, to shave a bit of time off the journey. We had a lunch stop in Guatemala City at a shopping mall before arriving in Antigua in the early afternoon.
Antigua is set in the middle of three volcanoes and is a beautiful city. The weather was sunny and warm when we arrived, so I relaxed in the courtyard of our hostal, enjoying the warmth.
In the evening Daryl and I went to the main city square to find dinner. We found a place serving typical Guatemalan food and ordered a plate with various local specialities. The food was delicious, especially the capsicums stuffed with mince and salsa. The plate also had pork fillets and sausages, guacamole, beans, rice and salad.
The city was very quiet in the evening and there didn't seem to be many street lights. We went for a drink on the rooftop of the Café Sky across the street from our hostal and the stars were still visible. The temperature had dropped dramatically at night fall though, and it was pretty chilly on the roof.
