Hey all! This week was super busy!!! We started classes on Monday, and all week I have been going to classes and trying to get back into the groove of school after having four months of summer! My classes so far seem really good! My favorite is History of Western Art I: Renaissance and Baroque. The professor is awesome and he is the curator of a museum in Maastricht, so he is going to take us there and give us a backstage tour of his museum. I can't wait! I feel like that will be an incredible experience. We also get to give a presentation at one of the art museums we go to in London. How amazing is that? All my classes are awesome like that. Also, I have a really cool story to tell about ghosts. The castle is supposedly haunted by a ghost named Sophie, who are lounge (Sophie's Lounge) is named after. Anyway, so my friend Kara and I were standing on the landing on the staircase by our hallway when the door to the bathroom there opened by itself and bumped into me! Creepy!! So....ghost or coincidence? Haha I've been going on bike rides almost every day, and I love this town so much! We went yesterday morning, and all the people were out cleaning their lawns and front porches. It was adorable! We also discovered a cool church which we hear the bells ringing from all the time, and a field full of goats and sheep. I feel like I'm in a movie here!!! So cute.
So today was an interesting day! For some reason, many things happened to occur that were kind of hilarious. After my first class, I had lunch. After that Nicole, Kara, and I headed back up to the room to grab our stuff for the next class, but as we opened the door, we saw a HUGE wasp on the window. Like massive. And I know you will think I am exaggerating, but it was a monster wasp. And we did not know what to do, because we were terrified of getting stung. So we decided to go down to Student Services and see if our lovely RDs could help us. When we told Dojina, she said, "Oh dear. No, you must wait for someone to help you with that. I will get Jacque to help you." So after class, I went back to student services and met Jacque, who Dojina told me speaks no English. So. I'm thinking "Ok, that's fine. I'll get by on what little Dutch I know." Mostly I just said hello. Dojina explained the problem to him, and he and I headed up to my room to deal with The Creature. We get up to the room, and I unlock the door and point Jacque to the windowsill where the wasp was lurking. Then, the best thing ever happened. He laughed out loud, grabbed his handkerchief, smacked the wasp, and it fell. Then he grabbed it by the wings with its body still wriggling, and tossed it out the window. Then he turned, looked at me, and said "Bye bye." And he walked out the door. Funniest thing ever. Did I mention I love the Dutch?
So after that Kara, Nicole, and I planned out the entire semester and where we want to travel and when. Here is my list so far of where I might be going every weekend: Amsterdam, Luxembourg, Belgium, then our group trip to Croatia. After Croatia, Kara and I want to split our travel break in half and go to Romania and Budapest. Weekend after that is Prague, then Austria. Then Vanessa and I want to skip 2 days of class to spend 5 days in Paris....love it. Then Germany, and then our group trip to London followed by the second extended travel break which we are spending in Ireland and Scotland. The last weekend will either be Switzerland or Germany again. And this is all still tentative. So, this is my semester of AMAZING! Hahaha. After we planned, which took forever, I found Huber and asked him to put air in my bike tires. He said sure that he would meet me in 5 mins. So I go to the bikes and wait for him. And wait. And wait. And he's not showing. Rene walked by and made fun of me waiting like a loser. Haha. Turns out I am really dumb. I though he had like a small, hand-held, air pump. You know, the kind everyone has in their garage? No. He has like an air machine that inflates tires. And I did not know. So they were waiting around for me, and I was waiting around for them. And I am an idiot. But they thought it was funny.
So its my birthday tomorrow! And we are leaving for Amsterdam! I am so excited!!!! I will update you guys on what Amsterdam was like on Monday or Tuesday when I am back and caught up with my homework!!!!
