A lorry crashed through a river the same time as me producing a sobering tidal wave.
We were all ready for some lunch and watched a Brazil vs Uruguay game. I sat next to a lovely Brazilian couple who were shouting at the screen.
Shortly after lunch a few of us headed to rafting, we gave the raft the name easy bells due to a german girls nickname, so every time we passed a huge rapid we were all shouting easy bells whilst the two German girls were screaming
After the river excursion we commenced our first night climb. During the ascend I was pick pocketed and bitten by a monkey, nearly walked into a huge spiders web at head height and we found poisonous centipedes crawling across our path. We arrived at the first nights accommodation that was run by a family living on the mountain. The evening consisted of a few beers and great company, good group bonding day and we were christened 'The Pumas'. The beds were extremely comfortable but complete with scorpions.
Fun with natures paint and random parrot climbing on me! Walked up to cliff pass, hanging off orange trees and eating random plants and seeds. Condor look up joke with our guide Sam. Creating Sparta photo. Asked to lead group along mountain pass.
Participated with a prayer to Mother Nature using three coca leaves representing condor, jaguar and snake (sun, earth, underworld). Sometimes the locals sacrifice insane people to ask for help with constructing new bridges etc.
We trekked along a river and watched some construction workers blasting rocks
The third day consisted of a zip line course including a bridge that proved to be a lot of fun. Max and I decided it would be fun to tilt the rope bridge vertical to make the girls scream, it worked however the english doctors behind us in the queue sought revenge for the girls and had me holding on with white knuckles! Afterwards we had a few hours hiking down a railway track, the views were awesome and I used the walk as a workout by dropping back to the last man then power walking to the front. I found a lot of freedom in listening to my music whilst pushing myself and taking in the scenery. We arrived in Agua Calientes, checked into our hostel and arranged a group meal.
Woke up at 4 to climb to Machu Picchu, loved the physical workout, testosterone carried four of us non stop to the Lost City. Sam gave a thorough tour of the ruins, i donned Inca Man cape and mask and was asked to leave a few times.
We then climbed Machu Picchu mountain, incredible climb with stunning views tried to distract the guards so we could make naked photos, a random guy had nun-chucks and put on a spectacular performance whilst I was dressed in my ridiculous costume again!
We descended and caught a train back to Cusco, loved the whole experience.
