Where I stayed
We hit the jackpot with our choice of hostel here. I wouldn't usually post a picture but it was like a 5 star hotel for a hostel kind of price. It had everything! And felt really homely which was awesome. :) Being low season we pretty much got the whole apartment to ourselves. The hosts Julia and Alex were awesome, friendly and helped us out heaps.
We got the opportunity to check out one of the local Austrian restaurants that served the famous wiener schnitzel
Vienna has a road of markets where locals sell all kinds of food stuffs. Along with this is some really nice restaurants with amazing menus, as they get there produce fresh from the market itself. We enjoyed a really nice Thai meal here. We also brought fresh fudge (before you say it, yes i am my fathers daughter haha).
We were told that if we visit here, that we must experience some of Vienna's well known classical music, so we thought what better way to do this other than visit the music museum in the city centre. This was a pretty sweet museum with heaps of interactive things to do. One of the highlights was a virtual stage where you get the opportunity to be a conductor of a band, naturally we were excellent at this :) We both weren't sure if we were going to enjoy this at all not being into classical music, but I actually came out of it liking one of Mozart's remixed album's...who would have thought that would happen!
We were met by big gates, hordes of people and horse carriages, this has to be a palace. The Schönbrunn Palace is huge and consists of many parts, the palace itself, gardens, the Gloriette, labyrinth, zoo, sculptures and more.
Our tour of the Royal apartments was what we expected and more
This palace would have to be the nicest, richest and largest one we have been too so far. The royals really did live the life here. I wouldn't mind staying here either :)
Naturally i was super excited when i found out that there was a Spanish riding school. Dan wasn't as thrilled but was good enough to tag along. Unfortunately we aren't going to be in Vienna when they have an actual show, but we did have the opportunity to see them in training. It is a traditional riding school for Lipizzan horses, which perform in the Hoftburg (the other royal palace) and dates back to the 1500s. The presentation builds on four centuries of
experience and tradition in classical dressage
The weather while we were here was varied, most days were overcast and we experienced a bit of rain wind and sun eventually. We both would really like to come back in the summer to see more of the city.
We didn't get photos of everything we did here as most places didn't allow photos :(
