Where I stayed
First day we managed to walk about 1/4 of Paris - well it definitely felt like that! Got to see the beautiful old buildings and streets as we walked. Was a well enjoyed day of exercise if that's even possible.
The Eiffel tower is stunning, especially for a building that was built in 1889! Managed to get some really good snaps of it after the clouds cleared :) Pitty it pissed down with rain 10mins before it was lit up, so we didn't get to see it sparkle tonight, but will definitely go back another night so we can say we have seen it in the daytime and night. Will also plan to go up it as well :)
We visited Arc de Triomphe, which took 286 stairs to get to the top of. Amazing views of Paris from up there
Fri 12th Oct
We woke to a fire alarm this morning, which left us scrambling down stairs into the lobby looking like zombies in our pjs. Excellent start to the day. Feel sorry for the dork that burnt his toast to be honest!
The sun was out today so we walked to the city where we jumped on a city tour double decker us, that took us to all the major attractions in Paris. The top of the bus was open, which made for a nice ride around the streets. Our first stop was Musee du Louvre which is an absolutely stunning building. Great museum, with so much to see. The highlight for us was seeing the Mona Lisa and the amazing renaissance paintings on the ceilings. The history that is displayed in this building is pretty incredible, nothing like i have experienced before.
By the time we finished at the Louvre it was almost time for the Eiffel Tower to light up, so we made our way to see it. What a sight! It looked like a pretty yellow tower and then all of a sudden it took on a figure of a huge xmas tree, with lights flashing all over it. It was well worth the wait to see it lit up and get some awesome photos of it.
Sat 13th Oct
Very dull today in Paris, wet and cold
When we eventually found our way to the catacombs and they were closed for maintenance :(. What a let down, especially cause they wont be open while we are here! Oh well will definitely have to come back to France again then wont we...what a shame :P
Sun 14th Oct
Yet another wet day in Paris but we managed to finally work out the Metro system and got out to Notre Dame Cathedral...Holy shit what a sight! Aside the fact that it took 200 years to complete the whole place is a work of art. We were lucky enough to be there when a Mass was being held so got to hear the old organs flaring up. Then we climbed the 480 odd stairs up to the top of the Bell tower. The view from up there was pretty good but could imagine it would of been a lot better on a nice clear sunny day.
Then we headed out to Paris Lechaise Cemetery...no not cos we're creeps and like visiting them, this time there was a purpose. To go and have a look and visit Jim Morrisons grave. For those of you who don't know, he is the lead singer of the band The Doors...look them up!
Tonight is date night and we are going to a French Restaurant so Roxy can eat snails..
We dinned at a La laiosonfsvnjfda something or rather, which was only a small walk from our hostel. Had yummy food but unfortunately we didn't get the opportunity to try snails :(.
I would have to say the baby scallops in the creamy sauce for the entree was the highlight, along with the extremely gay waiter who befriended us, calling us his children haha. Was a really enjoyable evening, with really good company.
Mon 15th Oct
All museums are closed on a Mon, so what better excuse but to climb the Eiffel Tower finally!
We waited in line for about 45mins before we got to go up, but the view from up there was awesome. Again we got some really nice panoramic pictures of Paris and can now say we have been up one of the most iconic buildings in Paris.
Next on our list of things to do was find Place des Vosges, which is a old square in Paris that dates back to the 1600s, which is seriously old right
Tues 16 Oct
ITS MY BIRTHDAY!!!!
Our day started with a typical french breakfast, a croissant and drink. Then it was pack up our gear and head to the train station...no rest for the wicked, we are on our high speed train to Amsterdam.
10 observations we made about Paris:
1. You will never escape the smell of smoke.
2. Everyone walking down the street looks like they are talking to themselves, but are 'most of the time' talking on there hands free kit.
3. Homeless people always have cute little puppies! I don't like this..it makes me want to give them money.
4. The smell of delicious fresh bread is everywhere :)
5. French desserts and pastries are to die for.
6. All Parisians look like they have the shits! everyone is in a hurry to be somewhere.
7. The history of this city and the buildings are amazing
8. You wont see houses...only apartment buildings.
9. The cemeteries are super creepy but very cool.
10. The coffee is strong...but gooooood :)
