Hola everyone! The next stop on my journey was Barcelona. Originally, I had planned to stay here just a few days but that changed once I found out about La Merce. This is Barcelona's biggest festival of the year and is filled with amazing, strange parades and all night music performances in different venues around the city. It is celebrated to honor Mare de Deu de la Merce, the Patron Saint of Barcelona.

It took a little bit of time for my body to get used to the Spanish time schedule which usually starts late in the morning then takes a break in the afternoon and finally continues on until the wee hours of the morning. When I first arrived I wanted to visit some of the city's famous sites before the crowds arrived for the festival. Most of the places I visited where the many buildings designed by the famous architect Antoni Gaudi. His most famous work which is still unfinished after over 125 years is Sagrada Familia which is a one of the largest, most ornate, interesting cathedrals I have ever seen. I also went to a large park called Parc Guell which offers a great view of the entire city from the hilltops.

I also met up with a friend I met in Paris and another guy at the hostel in Barcelona and we went out for drinks until the sun nearly came up. The only downside of my time in Barcelona was that on the last day my friend went to copy my pictures onto his computer and the memory card for my camera crapped out on me so I fear all my pictures may be lost from Barcelona. Sorry there isn't any pics with this post and there likely won't be at least until I get back to the States. However, I promise at least double as many good pics from my next stop in Portugal in which I will be undertaking an exciting journey on nothing else than my own two feet. Adios Espana!
