While heading northwards to DC I stopped to visit my friend Alan stationed at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville NC. Having been to Jacksonville myself when I was in the Marines I remembered how boring this place can be. However I still had a good time visiting my friend and the beach was not far away. We decided to be a little redneck and go to and off-road rally race which would have been more fun if there where more trucks racing or more of them actually made it through the course. Still we had a pretty good time thanks in part to having plenty of beer.

We also took a trip to the coast to play mini golf and hang out on the beach for an afternoon. My mini golf skills have deteriorated greatly since I was 10. Having just recently spent some time on the beach in Tampa I found that the Atlantic coast is much different than the Gulf. The sand here was much coarser and the water a deeper blue color. It was much more fun than the Gulf though because of the powerful waves hitting these shores which provided hours of entertainment as we tried to ride them. Only one Greyhound ride to go!
