Ah! The Fourth of July!

We set out to the first industrialized city of Lowell this morning. Our textile industry was started here in the early 1800's.  The looms were powered by a canal system they dug throughout the city.  We got to take a boat ride on the canals!  And even through a lock chamber!  It was very cool.

We finally found a beach.  And we swam in the Atlantic Ocean!  (Ok, so at least I dipped my feet in.  It was cold!!!)   Cracked me up when a bunch of ducks (is that a gaggle?) paddled right through all the swimmers!

We saw the fireworks at a state park on the harbor in Salem.  There was a big festival with lots of free stuff for the kids to do.  Great live band that was singing lots of Beatles, Moody Blues, Frampton, The Who....great tunes!   Then the local VFW, Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts led us in a color guard and flag salute.

Then came out the orchestra!  Yes, a LIVE orchestra!  Of course, the opera singers were not appreciated by my son.  He texted to Closer Gramma that "a dorc was singing"!

They put on at least a 30 minute show for us!  Fantastic!

I'm making this short so I can download a couple of pictures before we head out to Boston.  We are running behind this morning!
