(Don't spell check that, by the way.)

We started out the day taking the #6 Subway, Uptown (yes, I was singing Billy Joel the whole way).  A bit rushed and hurried...but isn't that all New York???  We finally found the Metropolitan Art Museum. (oh, we found Best Buy first,,,bought a new toy...a little video recorder - very cool)  Starting out in Ancient Egyptian Art was a little tough.  Kids (and me) were not very excited about it.  We wanted to see the Picasso and Van Gogh stuff.  Passed through the [inapproprietly dressed] sculptures where Ben decided he wanted to take pictures!  Finally found the Modern and Contemporary Art section.  They have a big display of Picasso right now.   We were bummed that our favorite pictures of his were not in the collection.  Nor was Van Gogh's Starry Night.  I did like the Monet's though. ( That concludes my complete knowlegde of art. )

Then we were starving so we had another NY hot dog at the vendor right outside.  That keep the kids happy until the next block where we saw another vendor with another hot dog.  I tried a knish.  It was potato filled.  I think I would like the cheese one better.

We rented a row boat!  But only 4 could go in it at a time, so Phil rowed the kids around the pond. I got to take pictures of a bright red cardinal and a big white stork(?) flying high over the city!!  Needless to say, I was a happy girl.   There was also a huge fountain with a tunnel that was decorated so extravagantly!  A family of 8 + a bass player were singing in the tunnel with amazing accustics!  I had to bring Phil and the kids to show them.  They had the most beautiful angelic voices - singing Amazing Grace & Overjoyed (Stevie Wonder). A couple dressed in fancy white African attire were dancing in the middle.  Only in NYC.

We took the subway back to the hotel.  Stopped for ice cream at the candy store!  Yum!  Then got dressed up for the play.

Hopped in a taxi to get to the Theater District to see Mary Poppins at the New Amsterdam Theater.   Can I say AMAZING too many times???  All the detail in the theater was mind boggling. Gorgeous and ornate!  And what a wonderful play!!  The kids were mesmerized!  The acting! The singing!  I bought the CD, so we'll be singing Chim chim chimmeny all the way back to TO.

We got home by 11:00....bushed again.  Tomorrow we head back to Washington DC for a few days.  We catch the train around 10:30 am.  It's 12:20 am right now...I'd better download the pictures and get to bed!

Hi Lee and Phil. I just shared all your travel log and photos with Sarah and Julia. They miss the kids so much. JuJu was appalled that Daisy was not with you. They loved the photo of Phil picking the statue's nose, and the one of Ben holding the statue of liberty in his hand. I LOL over the abundance of bird shots... (must be my sister behind the camera...) Sarah was amazed that you've gone so far so fast. Thank you for the photos. It is such fun seeing all that you are doing. Yesterday was our last day of school. Went out for ice cream and swimming afterwards. Dan and I are fixing the garage door today, and Gus is working on our roof. Looking forward to meeting you in Oregon, sis. When are you planning to arrive & leave that fine state? We want to spend as much time with you as we can, so may delay going to Portland until after you leave. Let me know! Remind me to tell you the news about Dan's work. Love u! Have fun! Nicole
