Today we visited cowboy country, home to the Ponderosa, gold, saloons and of course, cowboys.  Virginia City was founded in the Comstock gold and silver rush in 1859.

There are still working silver and gold mines around.  The town itself has been preserved and is lined with saloons and bars, icecreamerys and lots of opportunities for old time photo's.  Oh and of course the gambling in the saloons because after all Virigina city is in Nevada.  They have pokies in every saloon and we have to be careful to keep the boys at least 4 feet away from the machines and away from the bar due to state law.

The boys went to see a cowboy show whilst I sat in the shade in the main street and enjoyed some icecream.  The weather warmed up as soon as we left San Francisco and Virigina City was 97 farenheit or 36 degrees, which compared to the 75 farenheit peak in the afternoons in San Francisco was quite hot.

The saloons, and in fact most of Virginia City seemed to be run by bikers.  We certainly saw alot of bikers on the roads leading out there, as soon as we left Lake Tahoe, and they seemed to run the saloons mostly.

So we enjoyed our afternoon then headed on to Mammoth Lakes.
