Well I would like to say that I knew all along where we were going, but that would not really be true.  We were driving down the coast from San Francisco to check out Monterey and Big Sur as well as drive along the number one rated scenic drive in the world (according to TripAdvisor) which is the highway along the coast to Big Sur.

Anyway, we did the drive alright, but low and behold we got to Monterey and there was this scenic area called 17 mile drive.  Now, they are big on gated estates here, you know to keep out the riff raff, and the 17 mile drive was kind of like a preservation area along the coast, that contained various gated estates, but also four different world class golf courses, Del Monte, Spyglass Hill, The Links at Spanish Bay and Pebble Beach Links.  Now for those troglodites that don't know (ha, like me), Pebble Beach Links is where the US Golf Masters was played this year, 2010.  So of course I had to take a few photos of the Lodge, phone my Dad (golf fanatic) to gloat where I was, and buy him some very nice souvenirs. We had lunch at the Links at Spanish Bay and discovered an interesting fact.  The golfers at the four golf courses on the 17 mile drive don't have to worry about kangaroos on their course like in Australia, because they have deer instead!

The drive further down the coast to Big Sur was amazing, the scenery is breathtaking.  Peter just wanted to enjoy the drive, he likes driving it is one of his favourite past times.  Big Sur is not one particular place but the region along the coast where the Santa Lucia mountains rise abruptly out of the ocean creating amazing coastal scenery.

We enjoyed the drive then headed back to San Francisco to rest, before heading to Lake Tahoe the next day.

No problem Tarnya - Peter knew where he was going hey Pete - you just drive down the coast and then - CHUCK A LEFT!

Still got both those hands on the wheel Pete hmm! Just checking! You know what it is like with all those baby boomer bikies on the roads these days!

Well done, Tarnya - you see you set a precedent. We all come home every night and tune in and you weren't there, so you had us all worried when you decided to sit back, take a couple of days off, and enjoy your holiday. We all began to think - where the bloody devil are you. Ha! Ha! Only Joking Girl!
