We arrived 221 years to the day too late to save the Bounty at Pitcairn Islands.
This is British owned territory with just 52 inhabitants and we met them all. They all appeared cheerful, friendly and happy to sell their wares.
The island is best known as the home of the descendants of the Bounty Mutineers and the Tahitians (or Polynesians) who accompanied them there on Sunday 23rd January 1790.
They decided to burn and sink the Bounty so that they would have no choice but to settle here in the island and make it their new home.You can still see the remains of the wreck underwater in Bounty Bay where we anchored, within a few hundred metres of the site. From deck 3 I was able to take photographs of this on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon.
We met people here with the names Brown, Young, Warren and Christian.
The Islands are very small, Pitcairn measures only 2 miles across and the total area of the four islands is only 18 square miles.
All of their commodities come from New Zealand by sea and it takes twelve days to get them here.usually they get a shipment every three months, I asked one of the Islanders what does she look forward to most when a shipment was due the answer was wine,
