Nothing touristy to write today. It was all about waiting for the hurricane. Since it was a bit unpredictable about the hurricane and we slept in a little, it was not a wise idea to go to DC for the day. Instead we stayed near the house and I took William to Tyson's Corner shopping mall. It was very much like the Roseville Galleria in terms of size and the type of shops there. It was raining on and off and getting a little windy, but the mall had covered parking. A lot of other people seemed to have the same idea...the mall was a little crowded, but malls tend to be crowded on the weekend anyway.
It was all about William at the shops. He really wanted to buys some black converse shoes with his birthday money so we went in search of some. We finally found one with his size and color at our third store. He ended up getting a new rain jacket and a couple of new shirts too.
William was dying for some noodles and he wanted Pho. There's not a lot of Asian restaurants nearby, but we used Yelp to find A Taste of Saigon. It was interesting in that it was like ordering dim sum, but it was Vietnamese food. We had some appetizers and we ordered some noodles. William ordered two bowls since they were small. Their food was really tasty and worth it. But we can get a bowl twice the size at home for the same price.
We headed back to Cheryl's after that because the hurricane seemed to be looming. When we got back, Cheryl had already started preparing for the hurricane by filling ice chests with ice, freezing a jug of milk, made chili and froze it, and put food in ziploc bags for easier management should the refrigerator have to be somewhat emptied if there was a power outage. She also had flashlights ready to go and had the hand crank radio out. They also turned down the AC because if they lose power, no AC and it's humid outside. Her stove has gas so we were covered there. We made sure we had our computers and phones totally charged up too although we would have no internet with no power. Cheryl even told me to make sure my car had plenty of gas because there wouldn't be any way to get any with a power outage and we might need the car to charge our phones. Since they've been through this before, they had all the bases covered which was great for us since we were clueless in this type of situation.
With the wind howling and the steady rain, we went to bed and hoped for the best in the morning.
