Osaka is pretty much how you picture Japan.
Trains going over your head, under your feet, big flashy buildings and side streets with lots of eateries. Went to the Umeda Sky Building when we arrived, to catch the sunset. The building consists of two towers connected by an observation deck with great views of the city.
We then walked to the other side of town to find the Kiwi Bar. Gave up and went for something to eat instead. Ended up in a really nice place where we sat and ate with the locals for about two hours. You order, eat, order the next dish, eat, the next one..and so on. The couple beside us helped us when the chef didn't know what we were on about. There was an incident with a spider running through the restaurant which resulted in the waiter taping up a door to imprison it. Thought it was a mouse with all the commotion.
Next day we visited Osaka Castle which is a replica of the original. The inside is built as a museum which is well laid out. Learned a bit about the guy who built it. He helped unify Japan, but murdered his wife and kids in the process..power went to the head. The Japanese love him, apparently.
Went to an area called Tsuruhashi for a gawk and picked up the best sushi for lunch. Actually, we ate our way through the Tsuruhashi market and headed back to the Hostel for dinner. Burp..excuse me.
Our last day in Japan we went to the Aquarium in Osaka. It has the biggest fish tank in the world. Nice way to spend the morning before heading to the airport.
Goodbye Japan and all that's new-age', convenient, sensible and cool about you...except for the signs at the train stations.
