We were told that the floating islands on Lake Titicaca weren´t worth the trip but since our bus from Copacabana to Cusco was stopping in Puno for a few hours, we decided to pay them a visit.
We put our bags in the Tour Peru bus company office in Puno. From there, the company provided a mini bus to the port where we got a ferry to the islands.
The floating islands are made from reeds piled on top of one another. On Lake Titicaca, the Uros people have built their villages upon what are in effect huge rafts of bundled totora reeds. The islands change in size, and more are created as the need arises. Tourists can stay overnight on the islands if they wish.
The sun went down, and we returned to Puno. From the bus station we got taxi´s into town and ate at La Casona. A really, really great restaurant.
We went back to the bus station where Michael and myself took an overnight bus to Cusco.
