Ahhhhh, Ilha Grande. A Brazilian Tropical Paradise.
It rained the night we arrived. Our hostel was up a bit from the main village in the trees. We were staying in a hut. Bedroom to the front and showeroom to the back. Lots of mozzies so eh, it would have been a good idea to have the repellent on us on arrival! Had dinner (after the rain stopped) on the beach at Lua @ Mar (recommended by a local on the Ferry to the Island - cheap and cheerful). Seafood Risotto was to die for. Weather cleared up the next morning and we went hiking to a beach called Lopes Mendes. Not to be missed! Brazilians claim that itīs one of the most beautiful beaches in the country and after a two hour trek through the tropical forest, up and down hills and over roots, under branches..it has to be said, its worth it. Amazing, even the Aussie was impressed and heīs seen a few good ones in his time! We had company at the beach which was great, a couple we had met on the Ferry to Ilha Grande. We stayed there for about 5 hours and no way were we hiking back. Got a boat back to the town. Went for dinner with our new friends Nicolas and Virginia. Lua @ Mar was closed but a Restaurant further down was open (seems they close every second night in off-season, very charitable we thought!) Table  beside the water, which we thought was getting closer as we chawed through our Dourado(typical Brazilian fish) for four. Early night. Left Ilha Grande reluctantly and we are now back on the īmainlandī in a place called Paraty where the beaches are also meant to be good but itīs lashing! Seems we get a welcome rain shower everywhere we go!
