Miles Driven: 435.2
Average Speed: 54.6
Time in Car: 6:32:13

We left the highway and headed into the mountains. We really thought this would be the highlight of the trip. The next 2 days were supposed to be 3 or less hours of driving. We would spend most of our day hiking.

Nature, however, had a different idea.  When Aaron's family went camping when he was young, they broke droughts and brought floods whereever they went.  Now, when we go out, we bring the fire.  Fire was all around in the Bitterroot National Forest.  Bad news for us.

We stopped at our campsite, put up our tent, and headed to the fire information area.  Turns out the two mountains right around our campsite were on fire.  We weren't in danger from the fire, but we were told that hiking up into the smoke was a bad idea.  We went back to the campsite to get our money back and fast forward the trip a day.  As Denise took down the tent, she noticed that it was covered in ash.  That's not good.

We packed up and headed to our next day's stop in Lolo Hot Springs.  Just out of the campsite, we saw a strange dog in the road.  It was strange because it was actually a bear cub!  It was very cool. By the time we got the camera out, it had disappeared into the brush by the river.  Bears!  That's not good.  We'd see more clues about bears later.

We got to Lolo Hot springs, and things looked better. We had a cool campground near some cliffs and a river.  We climbed up into cliffs and boulders. It was pretty cool.
