We got up early (like 6:00 am), and headed out. Right away, we crossed the Mighty Mississippi. It was shrouded in fog, and really looked amazing as we crossed into Minnesota.
The first few miles into Minnesota was very cool, but it sooned flattened out. It was a long way across Minnesota to South Dakota, and not much happened.
In South Dakota, we stopped in Mitchell to see the Cabelas and then looked at the world's largest Corn Palace (woo hoo)
Just before we crossed the Missouri River, we stopped at a rest area on a tip from Aaron's parents. The view of the Missouri River valley from up on the bluff was amazing (and very windy).
We got to the Badlands National Park around 4pm. It was 105F, which is rather hot!
The Badlands are very cool, and although they look rather desolate, there is a lot of wildlife nearby. We saw a jackrabbit, bison herds, mule deer, and prairie dogs. We'll let the pictures show you what we saw.
About 355 miles from Wall, we started seeing signs for Wall Drug. It's a drug store / gift shop / restaurant in a very small town, that happens to be rather famous. The story behind the store is pretty interesting. http://www.walldrug.com/t-history.aspx
We stayed in a small campground behind the store. There wasn't anyone there, which we found interesting. Maybe it was because there was 2 trains that went through the town at 3 in the morning!
In the evening we checked out Wall Drug, which was better than we expected it to be (considereing the world's largest Corn Palace, and Bull's Head sculpture we'd seen elsewhere in the state). We grabbed some free ice water and home made ice cream. In the morning on the way out, we stopped and ate some home made donuts, which were delicious.
