I just realized that I already arrived 4 weeks ago. The time seems to fly by so fast. 4 weeks ago I came to Copenhagen, not knowing where I had to go. The only thing I knew was that my Danish buddy was going to pick me up at the train station. Well, I found my buddy and she made sure I got to my room ok, and gave me a tour of the area I am living in.
The first weekend a friend and I wandered around the streets, trying to find our way around. We managed to buy ourselves public transport tickets - not very hard because nearly everyone in Denmark seems to talk English :D.
During the week that followed, I participated in a Danish Crash Course. This meant sitting in class every morning for about 4 hours trying to learn Danish - a language that is written differently than it is spoken. It was a lot of fun and I meet quite a number of people during this week. In the afternoon/evening there were "social" activities organized by the exchange crew. For example, we went on a boat tour through Copenhagen, went bowling and visited Tivoli - I went on a rollercoaster for the first time in my live :P.
The 2nd week was the "formal" introduction week. We had to listen to various lecture about housing, exams, ... Some of those were quite boring. After those lectures we again had "social" activities. They were good to meet even more exchange students - there are about 620 exchange students at CBS this fall semester. In the time between the lecture and the activities we had to take care of our schedules because some classes were cancelled or overlapping.
On 4. Sept. the classes started. Here at CBS the way of teaching is different of what I am used to at my home university (Tilburg University, NL). Here the teachers tell you to call them by there first name only, they encourage discussion in classes even with over 100 people. There is a much more "activ" way of teaching. Personally I like this way of teaching. Most of my teachers are working in a company and only teach 1 or maybe 2 classes at CBS because they enjoy it. This gives them definitely a different motivation to teach. However, this way of teaching also means that the lecturers also require that all the materials are read prior to class - that usually means ~ 2 Chapters, case studies as well as articles; depending on the topic. So sometimes it happens that I am staying up late at night just to finish reading all the chapters for my classes on the same day.
Besides attending classes, I am also walking around the city - always discovering new places -, doing something together with some of my friends from here - like traveling to other cities or visiting museums -, or I am going to one of the several parties either at one of the residences or in the city - I am not going to all of them; you know me, I am not someone who goes to too many parties.
I am going to put new pictures on this site when there are new ones and I find the time to upload them.
