It's been a nice change being in Wezup after seeing a fair bit of a couple of trippy cities. We had a contact email address courtesy of Di's colleague Rick. The connection is Kelpies, they're becoming in demand as working dogs.

Paula and Dries live in the village. They made us feel very welcome, kept the wine flowing and the food coming. They have two of the smartest dogs you could meet, Rusty and Bailey. Really really smart dogs.

So we had a great couple of nights and all of Sunday taking it easy and being chauffered around on a tour of the Drenthe region by Dries. The Assen race track is very close by so we went for a look - we miss experiencing the TT by a week, which is a mild shame but no biggie. It's a very rich green landscape, and Wezup's a lovely village with a completely new style of building to us. Old to Holland though, a lot of the village was built in the 1900s. The brick houses look modern but are actually pretty old. They have fabulous looking thatched roofs.

We stayed at the Hotel Hegen which has been going since 1834 in the same family. We can recommend it as a comfortable and pleasant place.

We're wrapt that Paula and Dries welcomed us while wearing wooden shoes. We thought that was great even though it's pretty normal for them.

They're also fellow bikers so we had plenty in common to kick the conversation off. A lot of fun.

So thanks Paula and Dries, and we hope to catch up with you again. We headed for Amsterdam by riding the long way there - via Holland's Afsluitdijk, a pretty amazing experience.

Mum on

We're always glad to receive your latest page. Firstly, we know you are safe, then we enjoy your account of the stopping place. It's lovely that you found your friend's friends so very amenable. The photgraphs are beautiful. They no doubt typify the beauty of rural Holland. Are kelpies being bred in Holland or are they imported from Australia? I was always given to understand that they are a cross breed developed in Australia. The dog photo is a beauty - the way you have captured the two dogs in tandem. Love from us both, Mum and Dad.
