Well today is our first day of hitting the slopes and we have been hopeing that the weather will be like yesterday - Sunshine here we come.
After breaky, we got all our gear and headed to a day of skiing at Cardrona. About 1 hour from Queenstown. Not really that far but due to all the windy roads, it can slow you down, especially if you get stuck behind a slow car as you don't get a lot of chances to pass.
We headed off at about 8.50am and drove off as the sun was starting to look promising and give us a good day to ski in.
We travelled without too many hassles but in the last 10 km's, we got stuck behind a convoy with one slow car at the front. Andrew doesn't have a lot of patience when it comes to slow cars, so it made for an interesting ride.
Finally we made it to the car park and started to get all of our ski gear on, when Andrew realised he had left his new jacket back at the apartment. Lucky that by this stage the sun was really out and he could ski in his windcheater without any problems. Just a shame that his first chance to wear his jacket and he couldn't. Oh by the way it was obviously my fault that it was left in the room :-(
Also the camera was in his jacket, so this entry will be without any good shots.
To get from the carpark to the base of the slopes, they bring down a 4 wdrive with a huge trailor on the back. You all pile on to the trailor and they pack it in real tight and then drive you up to the slope. You get very friendly with all the skiers before you even hit the slopes.
I was really wanting a photo of this to show you all. Oh well maybe next time.
We had a great day of skiing, perfect weather but by 1.30pm we were tired, so we headed back to the car. No trailor this time and you have to walk.
Anyway as we were walking back to the car, there was a snowboarder trying to hitch a lift, so I offered him a ride down the mountain with us. Nice guy, travels the world working here and there. Was from Dunedin but has lived in Melbourne for a while.
We got back to our room with our bodies starting to ache. I was having trouble getting our computer conected so I was determined to fix up the problem and thank goodness our WiFi is up and running. $30 for the week which isn't too bad.
I had to catch up on work for a while as I had plenty of emails from customers. After that we headed into Queenstown for dinner at Chico's. We ate too much but Drew still found room for an icecream as we walked back to our apartment.
My body is really stiff and sore and I am hanging out for a good night of sleep. No plans yet for tomorrow but I will keep you posted.
