We started the day early, 4am to be precise, when some guy rang Andrew, totally unaware that we were overseas ( the joy of mobile phones). It then took me a while to get back to sleep.
Up and ready for breaky in the private walled garden, so far we see a blue sky. It's a delightful spot and as usual a really lovely breakfast. The hosts of this B&B are wonderful. Later that morning they show us the photo album of the mudslide and how their property was affected. It has taken them 5 months to restore. Not long after the flood they had to go through a snowstorm and then a earthquake. Your heart goes out to them and what they have all been through. I am glad that we didn't cancel and search for a new location as they need tourists to support them.

I spend the morning wandering around the shops without Andrew. This gives me a chance to buy a few things, although don't ask me how I am going to pack 5 handbags lol. After getting home from Florence a few years ago, I regretted not buying a few extra handbags, so this time I don't want to make the same mistake.

We then decide to hop on the train to visit the final town of Riomaggiore and guess what, it starts raining again. This is another town with tower type houses, all on top of each other or on cliffs. Their is a small fishing port, and you can imagine on a sunny day it would be stunning.

Again we avoid the rain by finding a restaurant and having a hit and miss luncheon. If you had a hole in your shoe, then my pasta could of repaired it. Andrews lasagne was Bella. I also have to try their Tiramisu and although it was good, it was not home made. Milan wins the Tiramisu dish on this trip but the ultimate winner came from Rome a few years back.

We eventually finish our sightseeing and take our weary legs back to our room. A rest is in order, then out for our final dinner in Italy (next week lite and easy is booked to get the kilos off)

Tomorrow will be a horrendous day of non stop travel. We have a 3 hour train journey to Milan, then a tight window to race to the airport and catch our flight to London, which I believe is about a 2 hour flight. Then a few hours to do a bit of shopping in Heathrow (Jo Malone perfume here I come) we will also get to the lounge and have showers before our flight. Grab some invites into British Airways first class restaurant, then board the plane for the start of our 23 hour flight home, via Singapore, which we then arrive early Friday morning.

Highlights & Lowlights

HIGHLIGHTS
*train travel - for Andrew the 317km high speed from Paris to Zurich. Also the stunning 4 hour alps journey from Zurich to Milan. Couldn't be more beautiful.
*standing in front of Mona Lisa
*being in awe of the Last Supper regardless that we are not religious. It's the most famous masterpiece from Davinci, and we had it right in front of us.

LOWLIGHTS
*rude arrogant Italian ticket inspectors. Unbelievable. ( I can imagine that the ones at home in Melbourne are no different though)
*rain but it didn't ruin the trip, although sunshine would of made it better.
*the worry of the lost wallet and almost stopping any cash flow.

To those that left comments thank you. Blogs take time and when you send out notifications and don't hear back from some on the list, you wonder if they are actually following our journey or not, so it is appreciated for those that took the time. Grazie.
