It’s Disneyland time  9th-11th September
We disembark from our flight and breeze through immigration but not after having to leave all of our finger prints and eye scan or maybe that was a photo, I’m not quite sure.
We head through customs after declaring my tube of  vegemite and proceed to wait outside for our Disneyland resort bus, which arrived about 15 minutes later.  It then takes us about 50minutes to get to our hotel drop off, which is the Park Vue Inn.  We check in and to our surprise, are given keys to our room straight away.  This was a huge relief as you don’t normally get your room until late afternoon.  So we happily head to the room and contemplate a shower but in the end just change into comfy park clothes and head straight over to Disneyland.  It is about 10.20am and is heating up it already feels like it’s 30 degrees.
After passing through security bag check, we make our way towards the gates and before we know it we are in Disneyland at last.  We wander down through main street, looking at all the shops and first stop is a jewellery store.  All I wanted for my birthday was an original Mickey Mouse watch.  And guess what they don’t have the one I am after, can you believe it?  All I wanted was a watch where Mickey’s hands went around.  They have every type you can imagine, with Mickey images but none with moving hands.  Bum!  Drew tries to talk me into any type of watch but it’s no good, I can’t be swayed to accept a ring in.
From there we head out to our first ride and go to Pirate of the Caribbean, which didn’t have a long wait time at all.  There seems to be a fairly heavy attendance compared to when we were here last year.  The heat is also getting to us as we have to cover a fair bit of ground and after just coming out of a winter; it was a bit of a shock to the system.
We endeavour to get a lot of the things done that we missed or didn’t have time for last year.  That includes going to restaurants that were on our priority list and also trying out the new ride Toy Story.  By about 2pm we are really feeling the time zone change catching us and the heat making it worse, so we trudge back to our hotel and appreciate how close it is in relation to the Disneyland entrance.  We collapse on the bed and are out within minutes.  2 Hours later we wake (even though we could have kept sleeping) and head back over to the park.  The first day is basically filled in by covering all the favourite rides and at about 7pm, we head out into the Downtown Disney area and find a bar, where we grab a couple of drinks and a Caesar salad to share.
This trip we decide to share meals as the portion sizes are huge and more than enough for 2 people.  This seems to work really well for the entire stay, not to mention how much that saves us when the bill comes.  We still have to get the hang of tipping though.
Our room at the hotel is right down the back but this works well, as it means that nobody walks past our room at night, making noise etc.  The only downside is we are too far away from reception to pick up the Wifi.
Day 2 is spent going to shows, riding on trains, monorails and taking it all in at a more leisurely pace.  Our sleeping habits are up the creek and this takes a while before we settle back down.
Day 3 is the day we try out the new Toy Story ride as it had been down for most of the previous day.  It’s a 3D ride, which is like a shooting gallery.  Andrew whipped my but with this one and I was literally exhausted by the time it ended.  We only did it the once, as the queues where about 40 minutes long.
Ok now here we are at Disneyland and guess who else is here with us?  Well there is Nicholas Cage, John Travolta, Johnny Depp and Nadia Comeneci.  Did we get to see any of them NO!  I think I saw the back of Nadia’s head when I heard a lady say Oh that’s Comenecii.  Now you all know me I would have chased after her but she entered the Grand Californian hotel and by that time it was too late.  So the back of the head had to do...................................
The other stars we heard about ,whilst chatting with various people in the lines for rides etc.  When we were heading back to LAX to fly out to Mexico, Andrew spotted John Travolta’s plane parked at the airport.  It’s easy to recognise as it is painted in the Qantas colours but has VJet on the tail.  So that at least should count for something, right?
Our last day at Disneyland was total exhaustion but we loved every minute of it, including the special seating we had for the Fantasmic water & light show, then followed by the fireworks.  If anyone knows how to put on a show it is Disney, the fireworks were awesome and had the theme of Peter Pan, with Andrews motto of “second star to the right and on until morning” it literally brought a tear to our eyes.

After 3 days at Disneyland, Andrew's back held up remarkably well.  I dragged him onto many rides and sometimes half way through I would sheepishly look over to see how he was handling it and most of the time he was fine, although there were a few that I was told not to repeat.  All in all he is really pleased with himself and kept saying "would you believe a year ago I was in a wheelchair"  Enough said!
