The trip to the Gili Islands from Bali took 2 days.   It could of taken us 3-4 hours but we decided to take the local route.  So the first day we took a small bus to Pandangbai which took us about 2-3 hours.  From Pandangbai we took a local ferry .  On the ferry we played poker and we soon found out that we were playing with a professional.  Luckily he didn’t win but he did try to tell me every mistake that I was making.  My only rebuttal was, “it’s my own money and I am just playing for fun“.  After a five hour boat ride when then proceeded to negotiate a small bus ride to Sengigi.  Negotiation is Asia is annoying.  Almost everything is negotiated so you have to play this game every time.  Most of the time its not about the money its about the principle of not wanting to be ripped off.  We can talk to 10 different people just to save a couple of bucks.  Sometimes its worth it but sometimes you can get a lot of animosity from the locals on the way you handle the situation.  Once we arrived at Sengigi we quickly passed out excited about what the lonely planet guide book  had to say about their beaches.  “You can spend the rest of your life traveling the world and not find a beach as aspiring as the beaches of Sengigi.” .  The next morning we went straight to the beach.  Fucking horrible!!!  I have been to numerous beaches all over the world and this was one of the worst.  Lonely Planet is good for somethings but not everything.  After Sengigi we left for the Gili Islands.

Before we arrived we had to buy boat tickets to the Gili Islands.  This is were I felt the most negativity for being an American on my travels so far.  The taxi cab driver that took us there was very excited about asking me questions about my travels and then asked me were I was from.  Once I told him, he didn’t say another word.  After we arrived to the boat ticket office the local guys tried to take every thing off my back and I mean everything.  My sandals, swim trunks, sun glasses, and hat.  Then after awhile of me saying no, out of nowhere one of the locals said “me and you are different” my instinct reply was “yes we are but we are also the same“.  He looked at my crazy and said no.  At first I didn’t know what he was talking about and then realized he noticed I was an American an he must of disliked us very much because I could feel his hate.  I soon left before any trouble started.

When we finally arrived on Gili Island and saved a total of $25 we felt like we were in heaven.  The beaches were beautiful, the women were gorgeous and most importantly the ratio of women to men was awesome.   We arrived on a Tuesday and soon found out that the parties occurred on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  So we took it easy that first day and relaxed on the beach.  Not only were the beaches some of the best I have ever been to but we had a few Swedish girls sunbathing right next to us topless.  What could be better.  The next few days we spent partying our asses off.  What was very Ironic on the last night is that Jose, Juan, and I hung out with the girls from each of our countries.  Juan and Jose hung out with two American Girls from New York City while I hung out with two Spanish girls from Madrid.  The Spanish girls and I danced all night long till about 5 in the morning and I learned so much of their culture.  They call their heart “Potato” and they loved the passion and genuineness of my attitude so all night we pounded our chest and said “la potata”.  My buddy Jose said next time to say “Tengo la potata el rojo la bededa”  Which means my heart is red and on fire for you or something like that.  He said it’s a great pickup line.  It was too bad that this was my last night in the Gili Islands but the Spanish girls invited me to visit them in Madrid.  Maybe I will but for now back to Bali to party for Halloween!!!
