After dinner my cousin took me to his dad’s house (aka my uncle) and we took a look at our ancestry book. Our chok bo, the Korean word for ancestry book, goes all the way back 42 generations which is over 1200 years. It all started with a guy named Al Pyong from the Kyong Ju area which is in southeastern Korea. (Posted is a painting of him). I would estimate it was a book over 500 pages mostly written in Chinese because the Korean language didn’t start until a few hundred years ago. I was surprised to find myself, my brother, and Dad in the book too. They pronounced our last name right but called me Cornen. Luckily the book is given to the eldest who is my cousin and he said he would change it when he updates it. My mom said I was fortunate because they usually don’t follow the blood line of girls. Its sort of weird to think they we are probably the first Americans in this book.
