Where I stayed
Today was a travel day and we were heading for Koblenz in Germany so it was pack up after 3 nights in the same place. We didn't do too badly and were checked out just after 10 am.
Then it was hit the road from Amsterdam, the GPS had us on the motorway all the way so it was relatively smooth driving all the way apart from a few patches of road works along the way.
It was a bit nerve wracking watching the rear view mirrors on the Autobahn seeing the cars flying up behind us as we were slowing for the road works but the locals have it sussed, they all put on their hazard lights which seems to work well.
We arrived at Koblenz and tried to sort out tickets for a Rhine Cruise but it all seemed difficult even though the guy spoke English well, so we went for a walk around the town and saw the confluence of the Moselle and Rhine rivers which has an immense statue of Prince Wilhelm on it - he is attributed as having united Germany many years ago.
There were a few issues getting access to parts of Koblenz as they were running the BUGA flower show, think Ellerslie about 10 x as large and in different parts of the city.
That didn't detract from our impressions of Koblenz, we found it a very clean compact and friendly city with a lot of nice old buildings.
We tried again for Rhine tickets and finally succeeded the second time, getting round trip tickets to see the castles and the Loreley, lets hope the weather is nice as it was beautiful and sunny, then it changed - a bit like our sou'wester rolling through.
We headed to our accommodation which was 25 km out of Koblenz and we weren't sure what to expect from our Booking.com booking but were very pleasantly surprised.
It turned out we were in an old Post office in family accommodation which has two seperate rooms and a lounge and includes breakfast, all for 150 Euro for 2 nights! - Bargain.
We sat in the Biergarten and had a Stein each while the girls played in a playground, then had dinner at the restaurant, again another bargain and a huge meal for all, which made us extra happy we picked the place.
It is typically German, and you come out of forest into a small village and find our hotel, very nice!
