I won't bore you with details of our lie in, or all my laundry, except to say Tegz & Ci got up late, had breakfast, then went back to bed and slept again! We had lunch, and then headed out at about 3pm to have a little walk up to Trick Falls at Running Eagle Creek. Simple. The weather was perfect for us; about 75 degrees, sunny, blue sky with a light breeze. What could go wrong??

We began by driving up Looking Glass Road, to look down at the Two Medicine Lakes from above. We then drove down to the trail head for Trick Falls; a nice, gentle 1 mile flat stroll to look at a waterfall. The waterfall is quite high but to get a good view you have to cross a fast flowing stream, to get to the bottom area of the fall. Lots of Americans were content to look from a distance, take a picture and walkback, but not us ! We looked into the water and walked upstream slightly to find a better crossing place. We saw a fallen tree, perfect!

All went well until Cian decided to cross the creek on the log. Do I need to tell you what happened next?? Cue one soaking Cian, with wet hiking boots. Ioan and Cian then took their boots off and managed to cross it safely to the other side.

The rest of us decided not to risk it, and took our boots off to paddle our way across. Bear in mind the water is freezing and fast running, as it is snow melt, thats all the white stuff on the photos !

Tegz was the first one in. She put one foot in. Then the other. Then.....disaster! She slipped on a rock and cut her foot open quite badly. Of course we had no first aid kit with us; that was back in the house. Tegz had to keep her foot in the freezing water to try to stop the beeding, but the water kept getting redder and redder. I didn’t even have any tissues on me. Ioan had to cross back over the creek, lace his boots back on, and run back to the car to see what we had. He came back with.....some Subway napkins! Tegz then had to lay on her back while I applied pressure and elevated her foot. She was shaking badly at this point, and feeling sick. Once I’d managed to stop the bleeding I helped her put her sock and boot back on, and helped her hobble back to the car.

We had to stop off at the trading post to find some first aid supplies, as I knew we didn’t have any dressings back at the house. We managed to get tape and antiseptic cream, but no dressings. I had visions of having to use a panty liner (!) but luckily Lyn had a dressing in the first aid kit from his shoulder operation. Lyn administered first aid on the porch, distracting Tegz by getting her to count the carriages on the train that was passing by. (113 carriages and 4 engines!)

So, this could have serious implications for our holiday if Tegz’s foot does not heal quickly. She is having problems walking on it at the moment, which does not bode well for the hikes we have planned. I just hope it doesn’t get infected. We’re going to go to Waterton National Park over the Canadian border tomorrow, as it’s mostly driving with little walking, and then we’ll drive the Going to the Sun road across Glacier National Park the day after, in the hope her foot will improve by then.....if not...........who knows!

One positive note from today, is that when we stopped for first aid supplies we also bought our first Huckleberry Pie......big, big yum! Oh, and by the way, the waterfall was nice!

Gosh, poor Tegz! Hope the foot heals quickly and doesn't hinder your hiking. What an amazing place to be spending a week, but you could do without a dose of Evans holiday drama!!!

Well i am glad we have finally got the major Evans incident over with and thankfully everyone still standing...so to speak. Poor Teggy, I hope the pain wears off soon, not sure how that is going to heal though for hiking as looks pretty big. Needs staples or something me thinks. Enjoy the next few days at your new base. :) Chris x
