Where I stayed
Holiday Inn, Times Square
Sitting in bed at 6.55am, watching huge snowflakes swirl from out of our 27th floor window! Welcome to New York!
Wonderful journey yesterday, one of the best we've had. No queue at Heathrow; just straight through bag drop, then straight through security with no queue. There was even no queue in immigration in Newark! Will have to travel in February more often!
We had a nice bit of retail therapy in Duty Free, and a so so meal in TGI, and a relaxing flight where I got to finally see Eat, Pray, Love and a documentary about Amish teenagers and one about fat teenagers who went to stay with fat people in Mississippee! Lyn had his exit row seat that he'd paid extra for, and Ci and I were just behind him.
We decided last minute to book a car into Manhattan from the airport, rather than get the bus, so we were pleased to see a bloke holding a sign with Lyn's name on it in the arrivals hall.
Lyn sat in the front with him, and made an innocuous comment about snow, only to find that this bloke had been a meteorologist working for the Soviet Missile programme. Big mistake! Lyn was then subjected to a vigorous animated 40 minute lecture of why there is no such thing as climate change, whilst the bloke weaved in and out of the New York traffic, apparently choosing lanes at random. Poor old Lyn! He had to try and answer questions such as "what is the percentage of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?" whilst being spat on by an excited Russian who was more fixed on looking at Lyn to gauge his response than the traffic around him! Now, as most of you know, Lyn likes a good debate, and can usually hold his own, but not when jetlagged and scared for our lives! Apparently it's all about the excitement of the carbon atom! So now you know!
We were glad to get to the hotel, and into our tiny room. We have a "city view" and can see the Empire State Building, which is lit up red white and blue. We crashed immediately, as it was now 2am British time. After an unsettled night we have woken up to a snowy New York. Time to get showered and have breakfast and then hit the sights!

Glad you got there safely and remarkably smoothly even through the infamous US Immigration. What a great room if you can see the Empire State from there. And snow to boot!
