We had to be packed up and on the road this morning by 6pm, it's a 670 k drive, our longest yet.  Our destination is San Antonio.  San Antonio is quite a revered place for Texans, as this is the place where 200 of their finest men took a stand against 1500 Mexican soldiers.  It's all a little confusing, the Texans were defending a Spanish missionary, they were all killed.  The Mexicans then took control of the Missionary, it was their strike for independence against Spanish rule.  To tell you the truth we have asked several people about this piece of history and even they get a bit confused telling it.  The king of the wild frontier, Davie Crockett lost his life in the battle of the Alamo.
San Antonio is a lovely city.  They have very cleverly diverted the Alamo to form The Riverwalk, it's basically a canal with shops and restaurants on either side that winds it's way through down town San Antonio.
We had dinner at a Mexican Cantina overlooking the Riverwalk, it was nice to kick back and do a bit of people watching.
We got back to our campsite about 9pm and had to pitch our tents in the dark, we are all becoming very proficient in setting up camp in both daylight and dark.  It appears that we have swapped tarantulas for cockaroaches tonight, someone has spotted a tree nearby that is infested with the horrible little buggers.
