River banks of the Jordan River

Woke up this morning on the banks of the Jordan River to a beautiful day.  The sky is crystal clear, not a cloud in sight, as my sister would say "on a day like this you wouldn't be dead for quids".Met our next door neighbour Bev from Penrith, who has been camped on this site for a couple of days.  Her travelling companions are 2 other ladies Janet and her little dog CJ from Bateman's Bay and Laraine and her little dog Cha Cha from the Gold Coast.  They are all independent and drive their own motorhomes.  These are Sister's doin it for themselves.  This threesome met up on the road last year and decided the'd like to do a trip together this year.  They are on their way to Darwin, then down the centre.  Bev has promised her family she'll be home for Xmas.  Whilst she's been away there has been a new addition to her family - a new great grandson.  Janet is no stranger to motorhome travel, her and her husband spent 21 months travelling through 37 countries in their Winnibago.  They put their Winnie on a ship in Darwin picked it up in Singapore then drove from there finishing in Europe.  When they'd had enough and seen as much as they could see, they shipped their Winnie from Geneva back home to Australia.   I am in complete awe of these ladies.
This is a perfect little town to bike around, a trip to the cemetery is always a good place to look around.  The oldest grave we found was 1886.  The caretakers we spoke to who just happen to be uncle & nephew were able to tell us about the levy that had been constructed around the town.  Between you and I the impression I got was that the levy wasn't quite constructed in the right place.  Oooops!I'm a bit miffed, we are heading to Barcaldine tomorrow which is a shame because Jericho drive-in is showing it's first digital film tomorrow night, Bruce Willis's latest Die Hard movie.  Bev, Janet & Lorraine have booked the canvas seats at the back for tomorrow night's showing.  Bugger! After lunch we set off on another bike ride around the town, I feel a bit like a roving reporter today, can't help myself, everyone I bump into I feel as though I have to interview them, case in point, popped into the general store, next minute me and Robyn are havin a full on conversation, in the space of 15 minutes I learnt that if a mining bill goes through this neck of the woods will be home to 13 coal mines which will be known as the Alpha Mines.  The farmers in this area are doing it tough, first the floods in 2010, then bush fires, then 2 weeks after that a colony of 150,000 bats moved in, yes folks you heard correctly 150,000 bats and nothing anyone could do to move them on because they are protected.  Robyn says the stench was obscene.  By the time the authorities had come up with a plan to try and move them out of town, the bats had started to relocate themselves.  Robyn says that if things don't improve farmers will have to slaughter their own cattle in the not too distant future rather than let them starve. Everbody in Jericho is sweating on approvals for the mines.Had to pay a visit to the post office, where yet again I found out a little bit more about this town.  The town was founded in 1885.  Harry Jordan was one of the first pioneers, he named the river (more like a creek) the Jordan River.  I have a feeling that Harry may have been a little religious as he named the town Jericho.  The crystal trumpeters which forms the memorial in the town claims to be the only one in the world
.We finish off our stay on the banks of the river Jordan in a lovely little town called Jericho with our first camp fire and our first attempt at making bread on an open fire.
