Had breakfast on the rooftop - could easily get use to this, it's so tranquil, then off we all went for a stroll thru the markets.  Pushkar is a bit like a big village, there are no cars allowed after a certain point, only scooters and motorbikes, so you start to feel more relaxed.  The Traders aren't quite as insistent, there doesn't appear to be large scale poverty and it's also pretty clean, in fact, there is a nice ambience to this place.  Doris has been scoring well in the shoe department, being as she has miniature feet she's bagged herself some good bargains. One pair was $3 and the other $4 nice leather, soles and all.  After lunch, the able bodied are going to climb a mountain to visit a temple.  Doris and I have declined, we are going to enjoy the view, read our books, then meet up with the others down by the lake after they finish their climb.  A couple of the girls are still in recovery mode after their Delhi Belly episodes - how lucky for them to have such a lovely place to chill out and get their strength back. It's true to say that most people get some form of tummy upset when they visit India, but how come some are unaffected?
My top survivors on this trip so far would have to be in No1 spot Fred. What's Fred's secret?  He says "Alcohol - get as much of it down ya as possible.  Beer, gin, Indian rum, whatever you fancy. To tell you the truth, I'm a bit concerned, this is an alco free city, I haven't had a drink for 2 days - could be my undoing."
In 2nd posiion, I'd place Ewan.  Unfortunately Ewan couldn't speak with me just now, he was busy eating, but we did talk earlier when he confessed to being sponsored by Pizza Hut.  Ewan eats at least 2 pizzas a day, sometimes more, he also has a healthy dollop of Indian food on the side, and will sometimes top that off with one or two samosas. We think he's feeding another person inside him, because there's more fat on a butchers knife then on young Ewan.
My third place goes to Doris. She was poorly for a day and half, but nothing like the rest of us. What's her secret?  She says  "Lassi drinks, I like them, I think they're right nice."  What's your favourite flavour Doris?  "Owt, don't mind, I like em all.  To tell you the truth the Delhi Belly thing didn't bother me half as much as the mozzie bites in my lady garden." Thanks for being so candid Doris and sharing that with us
So there you have it, our 3 top survivors and their tips.  Maybe you'll  find this info helpful if you are thinking of coming to India (or maybe not!).
Doris and I head off to the market for some last minute retail therapy before meeting up with the climbers. Pushkar has some lovely jewellery shops, I would definitely recommend the Silver Palace
There appears to have been a breakdown in communication as Doris and I have been waiting by the lake for quite some time and it has been dark for at least 40mins.  DJ turns up alone and I must admit for a spilt second I have bad thoughts that someone has had an accident up the mountain and I'm hoping it's not Fred.  However I had no need to worry on that score. Fred told me later that having just read Bear Grylles's biography, he was inspired to take on the climb with gusto. Hold on there Fred! we're not talking Everest here!  Anyway from all accounts Fred took on the challenge with relative ease and came in 2nd behind Mark who is at least 20yrs his junior  - Well done Fred.
We all enjoyed our last meal at Kishan Palace - the food has been wonderful and the hospitality has been amazing. Tomorrow we head for Jaipur.

Shaz on

Sounds like Doris might need a gardener to come in and do a little trimming and hedging :)
