Arrived in New Delhi at midday.   Very excited to meet up with Doris.  It's  bloody hot, 37 degrees and very humid.  Checked in to the Hotel Perfect - good name. Small guest house, clean, nice friendly staff.  Oh! forgot to mention, for the purpose of this trip, we will be known as Fred, Ginger & Doris.  This is necessary to protect our children from any embarrassment should we feel the need to relate a Delhi belly poo story.  I can't imagine anybody visiting India and not having a poo story to tell.

Once checked into the Hotel Perfect our next mission was to find a bar and sample the local brew.

We tramped the streets of the Karol Bagh district for 1 1/2hrs.  It is, without doubt, one of the busiest streets with people and traffic that I have ever seen.  Apart from being pursued by some very persistent shoe repair salesmen ( I'm pretty sure Doris is going to have a few comments about my footwear) and having some very close calls with motorcyclist we were pretty much left alone.   Finally, we came across a very nice looking restaurant with a beer sign outside - inside didn't disappoint either, it was air-conditioned and the seats were comfy.  Eager to try our first Indian beer, we ordered 3 Kingfishers.  Sorry madam, says the waiter, we don't have.  Ok then what about an Indian black beer.  Sorry madam we don't have.  At this stage it was better to ask what beer they did have.  Guess what?  A bloody Fosters.  Fred was immensely disappointed, not that he has anything against Fosters, it's just that on your 1st day in India you want to celebrate with the local brew.  Anyway after 2 tallies he was over his initial disappointment.

Back at Hotel Perfect we met our tour leader DJ ( Digvijay) and also the 6 other Peeps in our group.  1 Brit (Doris), 1 Scot  (Ewan),  2 Germans (Anya & Christina) I must try to remember not to mention the war and  5 Aussies (Maddie, Katie, Mark, Fred & myself.)

We all went out for curry for dinner, no surprises there, but what do you expect, we are in India for heavens sake.  Just found out that one of our group members, Mark from Adelaide, really doesn't like Indian food or spicy food for that matter.  Watch this space  - . this could get interesting.  He ordered fried rice for dinner, he says he likes fried rice.   I wonder how he'll feel about fried rice after 6 weeks of it!

Found out about the lack of bars or places selling beer.  Apparently Karol Bagh is a fairly poor area, it's very hard to get a liquor licence plus they are also quite expensive, you have to know which officials to bribe.
OK that's day one, I hope you will join us on our adventure, and please feel free to pop your head in and say hello, and while you're at it post a comment.
