After 8.5 weeks it's time to leave Ecuador and head south. It may be one of the smallest countries I will visit on this trip, but it is one which has a little bit of everything - from the dizzy heights of Quito and it's surrounding volcanos, the beauty and tranquility of the cloud forest, the enviable wonders and contented nature of jungle life, partying and surfing on the coast, and the uniqueness of the wildlife and landscapes of the Galápagos. I have been lucky enough to meet many friendly people along the way - Gabo (who kindly translated for me on the train on my second day here), Darwin (our host in the cloud forest), Argentina (a friend of Annemarie's who showed me there was more to Quito than La Mariscal), Dario (our jungle guide in Cuyabeno) and many others who's kindness, patience and hospitality I have really appreciated during my travels. I also couldn't have wished for a better foundation from which to build my spanish abilities.

Sentimentalities over for the moment - I blame it on slight feelings of claustrophobia after a 5 hour wait in Guayaquil airport - I now have an 8 hour bus journey across a border described in the guidebooks as 'harrowing' and 'to be avoided where possible'... ;-)

Ah, another blue sky and sunshine day with me. Only about 30 degrees... Border crossing not at all harrowing - it was deserted and very fast ;-) xx
